Students trooped to the IE Comp Lab on July 24 to learn about various functions of Microsoft Excel as the IE Representatives kicked off the first of their iLEARN Seminar Series project.

Aiming to initially teach the basics of Excel, Sir Pijo Julongbayan graced the event as the resource speaker. Sir Janni Boydon also shared his knowledge to the attendees when he was spontaneously asked to speak.

Microsoft Excel has found an invaluable application not only in industrial engineering practice, but in numerous fields as well. It makes data computation and presentation much easier compared to traditional methods. IE students, moreover, find necessary purposes of the software in their majors such as in applied statistics, engineering economy, and simulation studies.

“The most helpful were probably the graphs that could really be used in our majors,” said Jelo Guerrero, IE Representative.

“We are really thankful to Sir Pijo and Sir Janni for teaching. We learned a lot from them,” he added.

Sir Pijo suggested a sequel to the event to cover the software’s programming aspects, especially after the fundamentals were tackled.

The IE Representatives, together with the department’s student committee IESC, plan to organize another iLEARN seminar in the coming months.
