Prof. Nestor Rañeses, 63, passes away

It is with heavy hearts that the Department announces the passing of one of our esteemed colleagues, Prof. Nestor Rañeses, who joined his creator yesterday, October 4. Prof. Rañeses, or Sir Nes, as he was known to most, was with the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from 1977, and served in various leadership positions both in the academe and in the industry. IE Graduation Dinner

  Last June 23, 2016 at the Celebrity Sports Plaza, graduating Industrial Engineering Students celebrated their upcoming graduation during Reminisce, this year’s Industrial Engineering Graduation Dinner. An annual tradition, the event is an avenue for the graduating students to be celebrate and remember their years in the university together with their batchmates. #Converge is an awareness campaign headed by the IE Representatives and Alliance of Industrial Engineering Students (ALLIES) that explores industrial engineering in the non-corporate sector - whether in government agencies, NGOs, start-ups, or the teaching profession. The campaign is founded on the idea that industrial engineering has a great, yet unrealized potential in contributing to a more efficient and effective Philippine economy and society. IESC’s send-off to its department’s graduates took place last June 26, 2015 titled “Reminiscence: IE Graduation Dinner” at the Celebrity Sports Plaza, hosted by IE students Trisha Oleta and Alfrey Oria. Members of the IE Department along with 84 students got together last November 7, 2013 in the Engineering Theatre for the 1st General Assembly. The event, which was hosted by Charlie Santos and Franco Del Rosario, started off with a friendly game comprising of participants from the two home organizations (UP CIEM and UP IEC). Project G

The Filipino youth today are building their future not just by studying hard, reaping good grades and developing their talents and skills. They are also building their future by planting trees. This was the creed of more than 30 volunteers who represented various schools and organizations during the Project G! Tree-Planting in Plaridel, Bulacan held last October 13. The volunteers planted 500 Narra saplings in the project site through the assistance of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
