The Integrated Product Design and Development Laboratory advances sustainable product design and development through research, policy support, and training in industrial engineering through a life cycle and systems thinking approach.

To be the leader in Industrial Engineering research, public service, and training for Filipino sustainable product design and development through life cycle, sustainable product design and policy making towards production and consumption of sustainable products.

To conduct basic and applied researches that advance industrial engineering body of knowledge in sustainable product design and support evidence-based policy making towards sustainable production and consumption.

Integrated Product Design and Development Lab – Sustainable Innovation through Life Cycle thinking and Systems Thinking – Product/Service Design and Development

• Apply sustainability mindset and concepts for identifying new market /business opportunities to invent, design and create products and services that contribute to the goal of achieving environmental, social and economic value for both society and the business organization.
• Apply optimization models and tools for multi-objective product analysis and design. (e.g. MCDM, MADM, etc.)

Integrated Product Design and Development Lab – Sustainable Innovation through Life Cycle thinking and Systems Thinking – Process/Operational Optimization

• Apply process/operations analysis, tools and techniques, which may occur in design, production, marketing, and other areas, in order to assess, determine and measure efficiency and effectiveness, as well as to determine areas for improvement/optimization and changes that benefit stakeholders.
• Determine metric-based assessment framework to evaluate economic, environmental and social sustainability for specific product/service industries or systems (e.g. healthcare, education, agriculture, manufacturing).
• Develop ways to facilitate sustainability (social, economic and environmental) research and management through ease of access and integrated databases of information, to develop new algorithms enabling different datasets to be combined to test hypotheses, and to apply current/new technologies for better access and management of information for determining indicators, setting standards, identifying performance criteria, etc. (e.g. ecoinformatics, digital technologies adoption, statistical methods).

• Collaboration with other tracks/fields of specialization by thinking beyond the borders or boundaries of the organization, fields, technologies, industries and others to understand how their actions affect or achieve better impacts to the organization itself but also broadly on other organizations, people, communities and society, as well as the natural environment, and vice versa. (e.g. system dynamics model, simulation, IS, HFE, etc.)

• Apply life cycle thinking and systems thinking in policy making in areas such as materials flow and resource management, sustainable packaging, waste management opportunities, eco-labeling, green procurement for sustainable production of goods and services.
• Apply decision-support tools for reviewing, evaluating and developing policies towards use of alternative materials, resources and new technologies in for sustainable production of goods and services.
• Develop evidence-based policy making process towards sustainable production and consumption of products.
